Bill Maher to Gavin Newsom: ‘You Are Imitating’ Trump
California Governor Gavin Newsom Faces Tough Questions on Real Time with Bill Maher
During California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recent appearance on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the host didn’t hold back when questioning Newsom about the layers of bureaucracy in the state. Maher expressed frustration over having to pay for two roof inspections on his home following wildfires in Pacific Palisades and Altadena.
Maher grilled Newsom, questioning why two inspections were necessary and referencing previous discussions about regulations. Despite the testy exchange, Maher is a supporter of Newsom and has encouraged him to run for president in 2028.
Newsom returned to the show to promote his memoir, “Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery.” Maher, known for his tough questions, asked Newsom about the heightened political tensions in the country, referencing a recent assassination attempt on President Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
In response to Maher’s questions, Newsom criticized Trump for failing to unite the country and accused him of living in a “sewer.” Maher then pointed out similarities between Newsom’s actions and Trump’s, specifically referencing Newsom’s lawsuit against Fox News.
Newsom defended his lawsuit, stating that it was necessary to combat defamation and lies. Maher drew parallels between Newsom’s actions and Trump’s penchant for suing media organizations for defamation.
