“Casino Royale” actress Joanna Pettet has passed away.
Her manager, Pam Dubois, confirmed the news on social media, informing The Hollywood Reporter that she passed away on Tuesday at Temecula Valley Hospital in California.
Joanna Pettet’s passing coincided with the anniversary of her son, Damien Cord‘s death, who tragically passed away at the age of 26 from a heroin overdose. Damien was her son from her marriage to actor Alex Cord.
Joanna Pettet is best known for her role as a spy in the 1967 film “Casino Royale,” where she starred alongside David Niven as James Bond. She also gained recognition for her performance in the 1996 movie “The Group” and the 1968 Western film “Blue,” where she appeared opposite Terence Stamp.
Throughout her career, Joanna Pettet appeared in various television films, including 1974’s “Welcome to Arrow Beach” and 1978’s “The Evil,” both of which belonged to the horror genre.
On the small screen, she showcased her talent in four episodes of Rod Serling’s NBC anthology series “Night Gallery” in the early 1970s and secured a recurring role as homicide detective Janet Baines in the hit show “Knots Landing” in 1983.
Joanna Pettet honed her acting skills at the Neighborhood Playhouse before venturing into Broadway productions. One of her notable stage performances was in “Poor Richard,” where she shared the stage with acclaimed actors Alan Bates and Gene Hackman.
Interestingly, Joanna Pettet had a lunch meeting with Sharon Tate and fellow actress Barbara Lewis just hours before the tragic events of the Manson murders in August 1969, making her one of the last people to see Sharon Tate alive.
Joanna Pettet passed away at the age of 83.
Rest in Peace.
