Coby Mayo hits another 3-run homer and Orioles beat Royals 8-6 to take series
The Baltimore Orioles secured a series win against the Kansas City Royals with an 8-3 victory on Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium. Coby Mayo was the standout player of the game, hitting his second three-run homer in as many days during a six-run sixth inning. This marked Mayo’s first two home runs of the season, bringing his RBI total to 10. Both of Mayo’s homers were impressive shots over the left field wall, with his latest blast measuring an impressive 452 feet into the bleachers above the fountains.
In addition to Mayo’s heroics, Pete Alonso also contributed to the Orioles’ offensive firepower with a home run of his own, his third of the season. On the pitching side, Chris Bassitt earned his first win as an Oriole, allowing five runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings. Anthony Nunez closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning to secure his first save of the season.
For the Royals, Carter Jensen led the way with his team-leading sixth homer, while Vinnie Pasquantino and Kyle Isbel also added solo shots. Michael Wacha took the loss for Kansas City, surrendering six runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings after entering the game with an impressive 1.00 ERA.
The game started with Alonso’s two-run homer in the first inning, followed by Pasquantino’s solo shot for the Royals. Kansas City briefly took the lead in the fourth inning on RBI hits by Jensen and Lane Thomas, but the Orioles exploded for six runs in the sixth inning. Leody Taveras and Jeremiah Jackson contributed RBI singles before Mayo’s three-run blast put the game out of reach.
Looking ahead, the Orioles will host the Boston Red Sox on Friday, with both teams yet to announce their starting pitchers. Meanwhile, the Royals will welcome the Los Angeles Angels and left-handed pitcher Yusei Kikuchi on Friday, with Noah Cameron taking the mound for Kansas City.
Overall, the Orioles’ offensive outburst and solid pitching performance secured an important series win on the road, setting a positive tone for the team as they continue their season. For more MLB news and updates, visit AP MLB.
