Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong becomes 1st MLB player to hit for cycle this season

Pete Crow-Armstrong made history at Wrigley Field on Monday night, becoming the first major leaguer this season to hit for the cycle. The Chicago Cubs outfielder’s feat was reminiscent of Hall of Famer Hack Wilson, who accomplished the same feat back in 1930.

Crow-Armstrong’s cycle was completed with a single in the seventh inning, but his celebration was short-lived as he was promptly picked off first base by the Colorado Rockies reliever. Despite the minor blunder, the Cubs managed to pull off a 5-4 win in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The 24-year-old had come close to hitting for the cycle in a previous game against the San Francisco Giants, falling just a single short. However, on Monday night, he started strong with a leadoff home run in the first inning, followed by a triple in the third and a double in the fifth.

Reflecting on his achievement, Crow-Armstrong mentioned that he felt more prepared for the moment than he might have been earlier in his career. He emphasized the importance of embracing the pressure and excitement of such a significant milestone.

Crow-Armstrong’s cycle marked only the 13th in Cubs history and the second since 1993. Notably, he joined Wilson as one of the few Cubs center fielders to achieve this rare feat.

In addition to his cycle, Crow-Armstrong contributed a key sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to help cut the Rockies’ lead. Despite his impressive performance, he acknowledged a lapse in focus that could have potentially cost the team the game. He emphasized the need to remain vigilant and learn from mistakes.

The outfielder has been on a hot streak, boasting a 19-game on-base streak dating back to May 26. During this period, he has maintained a batting average of .402 with multiple extra-base hits and RBIs.

Teammates and coaches have praised Crow-Armstrong for his work ethic and ability to deliver in clutch situations. Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga described him as a player who exceeds expectations on a daily basis.

Crow-Armstrong’s historic cycle and consistent performance have solidified his place as a rising star in the Cubs lineup. As he continues to grow and develop as a player, fans can expect more memorable moments from this talented outfielder.
