‘Everything is a disaster’ for Iran at World Cup

Iranian Soccer Team Faces Challenges at World Cup

An Iranian soccer player is speaking out against the treatment his team has received during the World Cup, labeling it as “oppressive” and “disastrous.” Striker Mehdi Taremi has raised concerns about the unfair treatment the Iran national team has faced, particularly during their recent match against New Zealand in Los Angeles.

Taremi revealed that the team was immediately asked to leave the United States following their 2-2 draw against New Zealand. He has reached out to FIFA for assistance in addressing the unjust situation that the team has found themselves in.

The Iranian team had initially agreed to fly in and out of the U.S. on the days they play their group stage matches as a precautionary measure due to the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran. This decision was made to ensure the safety of the team members during their time in the States.

Prior to the start of the tournament, there were concerns raised about the team’s visa status, with nearly a dozen members initially being denied visas. As a result, Iran had to relocate their World Cup base from Arizona to Mexico to accommodate the team members who were unable to enter the U.S.

Following the match against New Zealand, Taremi and Iran’s head coach, Amir Ghalenoei, expressed their frustration with the American authorities for forcing the team to return to Mexico immediately after the game. The team had planned to stay overnight in Los Angeles for recovery purposes and training before heading back to their base in Tijuana.

Despite the challenges they have faced, FIFA president Gianni Infantino assured the team that he would do his best to assist them in resolving the visa issues for the remaining group stage matches. The team members are hopeful that they will receive the necessary support to continue competing in the tournament.

The tension between the U.S. and Iran seems to be easing, as President Donald Trump announced that a deal to end the conflict with Iran has been signed. The official signing ceremony is set to take place in Switzerland in the coming days.

As the Iranian team navigates the challenges they face at the World Cup, they are calling for more support and understanding from FIFA and the international community to ensure that they can compete on a level playing field with the other teams in the tournament. Despite the obstacles they have encountered, the team remains determined to showcase their talent and represent their country on the world stage.
