Former CIA official arrested after feds find $40M worth of gold bars stashed at his home: report
A former high-ranking CIA official has been caught by the FBI after a stunning discovery at his Virginia home. Agents found a jaw-dropping fortune, including $40 million worth of gold bars hidden inside the residence. The raid also uncovered 303 gold bars, $2 million in cash, and nearly 35 luxury Rolex watches, according to court documents cited by the New York Times.
David Rush, who was recently a “senior executive service-level employee” at the CIA, reportedly requested the massive haul of gold and foreign currency for “work-related expenses” between November and March. However, when the agency conducted a routine audit, the assets were missing from official custody. This prompted the CIA director to refer the matter to federal investigators.
In a joint statement to the Times, the CIA and FBI confirmed that after an internal investigation identified potential violations of the law, CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred the information to the FBI for a law enforcement investigation. Currently, Rush is facing charges related to inflating his college resume and defrauding the government out of military leave pay. He allegedly falsely claimed to be a member of the Navy Reserve. As a result, he is now in federal custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
