Google Pixel Phone: How to Free up to 7 GB of Storage

If you own a Google Pixel smartphone, you may have noticed that a significant amount of storage space is being taken up by a system app called AICore. This app, exclusive to Pixel devices, is responsible for managing local AI models like Gemini Nano, which power features such as Magic Compose, Pixel Screenshots, and Recorder summaries. While these AI features can be useful, AICore reserves a large amount of storage and RAM, even when not in use, which can impact overall device performance.

Disabling AICore can free up around 7GB of storage and RAM that is dedicated to the app. This can help improve the speed and responsiveness of your Pixel device, especially if you are experiencing issues with apps closing in the background or sluggish performance. While disabling AICore will mean that local AI functions like Pixel Screenshots and Magic Compose will no longer work, cloud-based apps like Gemini and other non-AI apps will remain unaffected.

To disable AICore on your Pixel smartphone, follow these steps:

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap on “Apps” in Settings.
3. Scroll down or use the search function to find “AICore” in the list of apps.
4. Tap on the AICore entry.
5. Tap on “Disable” and confirm by tapping “Disable app” in the new window.
6. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select “Uninstall updates” to free up the occupied storage fully.

If you decide that you miss any of the disabled features or want to re-enable AICore, simply navigate back to Settings, go to Apps, find AICore, and tap on “Enable.” AICore will then download its updates and restore all AI features.

By disabling AICore on your Pixel smartphone, you can reclaim storage space and potentially improve device performance without losing access to essential cloud-based apps. This simple step can make a significant difference in how your Pixel device functions on a day-to-day basis.
