Houston woman Sherrie James claims suspected meteorite smashed into house after blast rattles residents
Mysterious Boom in Houston Area Leaves Woman Shocked After Suspected Meteorite Crashes Through Roof
Residents in the Houston area were left shaken after a loud boom rattled homes, with many taking to social media to express their concern. The Brenham Fire Department was dispatched to investigate reports of a possible explosion near Highway 50, but found no evidence of an explosion.
Witnesses reported seeing a green flash fall from the sky, followed by black smoke and a loud boom, leading to speculation that a meteorite may have caused the noise. Sherrie James, a resident of Houston, contacted FOX 26 and the Ponderosa Fire Department after discovering a football-sized rock had crashed through her roof, leaving a gaping hole in her ceiling and flooring.
Photos provided by James showed the black rock, which appeared to have broken off from a larger object. The fire department suggested that the rock was likely a part of the alleged meteor that was heard across Houston, as there were no nearby construction sites or trees that could have caused the damage.
The American Meteor Society documented a “fireball event” over Texas on the same day, receiving over 100 reports from observers. The event lasted between 1.5 and 7.5 seconds, though experts have yet to validate the reports. Fortunately, no other damages were reported as a result of the suspected meteorite crash.
