Indiana substitute teacher Cassidy Carter pleads guilty to sending student nudes
An Indiana substitute teacher named Cassidy Carter has been sentenced to two years in jail after pleading guilty to sending nude images of herself to a 14-year-old middle school student. Originally charged with child solicitation, Carter ultimately pleaded guilty to one count of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury. The victim had moved out of the area and did not want to pursue the case further, leading to the change in charges.
Carter, who was 21 at the time, sent the explicit images to the teen while working as a substitute teacher at South Dearborn Community School Corporation. The inappropriate communication occurred over Snapchat, with Carter sending nude photos of herself to the teen every time she took a shower, often late at night. She also expressed feelings of love towards the minor during their online conversations.
The incident came to light when the student confided in a school resource officer in December 2023, who then informed the principal. An investigation revealed the explicit photos on Carter’s phone, along with incriminating messages. Despite receiving a two-year jail sentence, Carter was credited with two days served.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries in teacher-student relationships and the severe consequences of engaging in inappropriate behavior with minors. It highlights the need for vigilance and accountability in educational settings to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
