Knicks settle for shameful win over lowly rival Nets
The New York Knicks narrowly escaped a humiliating defeat against the struggling Brooklyn Nets on Friday night. Despite a lackluster performance from Jalen Brunson, who only managed to score 17 points on 7-for-19 shooting, the Knicks managed to secure a 93-92 victory thanks to a missed game-winner by the Nets.
In a game marked by poor shooting and turnovers from both teams, the Knicks relied on Karl-Anthony Towns, who contributed 26 points and 15 rebounds. However, missed free throws by Brunson and Towns in the final seconds allowed the Nets multiple opportunities to snatch the win.
The Knicks, who have struggled with slow starts in games, found themselves trailing by eight points after a dismal first quarter where they only scored 14 points. Head coach Mike Brown had previously expressed frustration over his team’s lack of focus and energy at the beginning of games, and Friday night was no exception.
Despite the win, the Knicks’ performance was far from impressive, with Brown calling it “ugly.” The team’s struggles were evident, particularly in the second quarter when tensions escalated between Mitchell Robinson and several Nets players, leading to technical fouls being called.
While the Nets showed fight and pride in the matchup, their roster, focused on securing better lottery odds, ultimately fell short. The Knicks, on a five-game winning streak, managed to extend their dominance over the Nets to 14 consecutive victories, but the narrow margin of victory highlighted their vulnerabilities.
Overall, the Knicks were fortunate to come away with a win against a Nets team that is clearly prioritizing future success over immediate results. The close call served as a wake-up call for the Knicks, who will need to address their issues and focus on improving their performance in future games.
