Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Is Looking ‘Quite Green’ And Filled With Algae After Trump Renovations
Donald Trump excitedly shared his $14 million transformation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, promising that it would soon be filled with “CLEAN, BEAUTIFUL WATER” that would “SPARKLE magnificently” once completed. However, recent images and a video posted on X by photographer Andrew Leyden revealed that the pool was still looking “quite green” on Sunday morning.
Trump has been vocal about the issues with the pool, criticizing his predecessors for allowing algae to thrive during their administrations. Despite claims of having “fixed” the problem, reports suggest that algae resurfaced after a previous renovation in 2012. The current administration attributes the algae to supply lines that were inactive during construction.
An Interior Department spokesperson informed The Washington Post that the algae is residual and part of the normal startup process. Efforts are underway to remove the algae, and nanobubblers will be used to maintain the pool and prevent further algae growth.
Critics on social media took jabs at Trump over the pool’s condition, with one user joking that it was turning “Iranian flag green” instead of the promised “American flag blue.” Another sarcastically wished Trump a happy birthday, suggesting that he had only managed to “renew and invigorate the Swamp.”
Despite the setbacks, Trump remains optimistic about the pool’s transformation, and efforts are ongoing to address the algae issue and restore the pool to its intended state.
