Major alcohol distributor shuts down operations, lays off over 500 workers
A significant development in Colorado’s alcohol distribution sector has led to the closure of all operations by a major beer and alcohol distributor, leaving more than 500 employees out of work.
Eagle Rock Distributing Company has been a key player in Colorado’s social scene for many years, delivering a wide range of beers, wines, and spirits to local retailers.
However, following its acquisition by industry giant Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, Eagle Rock’s Colorado business is ceasing all operations permanently.
In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed on April 3, the company confirmed the shutdown of all Colorado operations effective June 5, 2026, resulting in the layoff of 514 employees.
This move signifies a major change in Colorado’s alcohol distribution landscape, showcasing the rapid consolidation occurring within the beverage supply chain industry.
Eagle Rock, a family-owned business with roots in Georgia and Colorado, has been a vital link between craft brewers and local alcohol retailers, facilitating the distribution of various major beverage brands.
The closure of Eagle Rock’s Colorado operations will have a significant impact on the distribution of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in the state.
More Layoffs:
Apart from beer, the company has also been involved in distributing craft beers, spirits, energy drinks, and wines from six major hubs in Colorado.
The closure of all distribution centers in Colorado by Eagle Rock has the potential to reshape the beverage distribution landscape in the state.
According to the WARN filing, the following 6 sites will be closed:
-
Monument
-
Grand Junction
-
Loveland
-
Pueblo
-
Denver/Commerce City
-
Durango
Various job roles will be impacted, including CDL drivers, warehouse workers, account managers, sales specialists, logistics staff, and administrative employees.
