Mets’ Jorge Polanco pulled from rehab assignment
Jorge Polanco’s Return to Mets Delayed Due to Ankle Soreness
Jorge Polanco’s return to the Mets may not be as imminent as originally expected. The veteran infielder was removed from his minor league rehab assignment on Saturday due to ankle soreness, leading to further evaluation in New York.
Originally scheduled to play for Triple-A Syracuse, Polanco’s setback has delayed his return to the Mets. Manager Carlos Mendoza had hoped Polanco would rejoin the club during their road trip, but the infielder needed more time to build up at-bats and innings at first base for Syracuse.
Polanco, who signed a two-year contract worth $40 million, was placed on the injured list with a right wrist contusion on April 15. However, he was also dealing with left Achilles bursitis at the time of his placement on the IL.
Despite the setback, Mendoza has indicated that Polanco may have to play through some level of discomfort in his ankle for the remainder of the season. The Mets are hopeful that Polanco will be able to return to full strength and contribute to the team’s success once he is fully recovered.
