National Action Network demand LAPD bodycam footage after dog executed during Knicks celebration

Anti-police activists are calling for the release of body camera footage after an LAPD officer fatally shot a family dog while celebrating the New York Knicks’ NBA championship victory in Canoga Park. The incident has sparked outrage among neighbors and online fundraising efforts, becoming a focal point for activists advocating for police accountability.

During a press conference outside LAPD headquarters, activists demanded the immediate release of body camera footage and the identification of the officers involved. Najee Ali, Senior Organizer of the Los Angeles National Action Network, emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the case of Jameson, the beloved Golden Saint Berdoodle who was tragically killed.

The LAPD officers responded to reports of a woman screaming in a condominium complex after neighbors heard loud noises coming from Marie Marseille’s unit. Upon arrival, officers asked Marseille to secure her dog, but Jameson managed to slip outside. The situation escalated when the dog allegedly charged at the officers, leading to the fatal shooting.

The shooting of Jameson has prompted a campaign by the Los Angeles chapter of the National Action Network, which focuses on police accountability and criminal justice reform. Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign in Jameson’s memory has raised nearly $150,000, surpassing its original goal.

Activists have criticized the LAPD’s handling of the situation, arguing that the officers should have left the residence once it was clear that Marseille was not in danger. The lack of transparency in the release of body camera footage has raised concerns about accountability within the department.

Neighbors who witnessed the shooting described the chaotic aftermath, with a distraught woman heard screaming in disbelief. The emotional reaction captured on video highlighted the impact of the incident on the community and the need for answers.

Despite calls for the release of body camera footage, the LAPD has not made the footage public, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently under internal review. The incident has reignited discussions about police accountability and the use of force in law enforcement interactions.
