Nimmo hits leadoff homer, deGrom works 4 scoreless innings as Rangers beat Mariners 5-0
The Texas Rangers dominated the Seattle Mariners in a 5-0 victory on Friday night at T-Mobile Park. Brandon Nimmo set the tone early with a leadoff home run, while Jacob deGrom delivered four shutout innings on the mound. Gavin Collyer also earned his first career win in the impressive performance by the Rangers.
Seattle, on the other hand, struggled to generate any offense as they suffered their fourth consecutive loss and were shut out for the fourth time in just 21 games this season. The Mariners, now 8-13, were shut out six times during the 2025 campaign. Meanwhile, Texas extended their winning streak to three games with the victory.
Nimmo wasted no time in giving the Rangers the lead, launching a 372-foot home run off Mariners starter Logan Gilbert in the first inning. This marked Nimmo’s 16th career leadoff homer and his second of the season. Nimmo had previously hit a leadoff home run on April 11 in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
DeGrom showcased his pitching prowess by navigating through Seattle’s lineup effectively. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning, recording key strikeouts to escape unscathed. Texas added to their lead with runs scored by Corey Seager and Jake Burger in the third and seventh innings, respectively.
The Mariners had their best scoring opportunity in the sixth inning after Collyer exited the game. J.P. Crawford singled to left, prompting a risky send of Josh Naylor from second base by Mariners third base coach Carlos Cardoza. However, Naylor was thrown out at home by Wyatt Langford, thwarting Seattle’s chances of getting on the board.
In the ninth inning, Texas added two more runs on a sacrifice fly by Andrew McCutchen and an RBI double by Josh Jung. Mariners third baseman Brendan Donovan had to leave the game early due to a left hip issue.
On the injury front, Mariners right-hander Bryce Miller, who started the season on the injured list with a left oblique injury, was present at T-Mobile Park and is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
Looking ahead, Mariners RHP George Kirby will square off against Rangers righty Nathan Eovaldi in the upcoming matchup on Saturday afternoon.
