Oscars set dates for 99th and 100th broadcast, before move to YouTube
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in partnership with ABC, has announced the dates for the final two Oscars shows to be broadcast on the network. The 99th Academy Awards will take place on March 14, 2027, followed by the historic 100th Academy Awards on March 5, 2028.
These two ceremonies will mark the end of an era as the Oscars will transition to YouTube in 2029, bidding farewell to its longtime home on ABC. Additionally, the upcoming shows will be the last to be held at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The film academy recently revealed that the Oscars will have a new physical location at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, as part of a 10-year agreement with AEG.
Despite the changes in venue and broadcasting platform, the show will continue to air at its traditional time of 7 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Pacific. This ensures that viewers can tune in to watch their favorite stars walk the red carpet and see who takes home the coveted golden statuettes.
The 98th Oscars, which took place last month, experienced a slight dip in ratings, marking a 9% decrease from previous years. Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the show honored outstanding achievements in film, with “One Battle After Another” clinching top honors for best picture and director. Notable winners included Michael B. Jordan for best actor in “Sinners” and Jessie Buckley for best actress in “Hamnet.”
As the Academy Awards gears up for its milestone 100th show, fans can expect a celebration of the best in cinema, as well as a look back at the rich history of the prestigious awards ceremony. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming Oscars shows and the exciting changes on the horizon for Hollywood’s biggest night.
