Pack Your Intention Before You Pack Your Bags
I woke up this morning at 4:30 AM, staring at an empty suitcase laid out on my bed like a silent interrogation.
Usually, the first thing I do is check the weather. Atlanta in June is no joke: it’s that heavy, "wet blanket" heat that ruins a good suit in under ten minutes. So, I started mentally sorting through my closet. The navy blazer? The light linen? Which shoes can handle the walking?
And then it hit me. I was spending all my mental energy on how I was going to look and zero energy on what I was going to do.
We are exactly one week away from TSP Live 2026. Thousands of entrepreneurs are currently doing the same thing I was: stressing over flight times, booking Ubers, and picking out outfits. But here’s the cold, hard truth:
Nobody is going to buy from your blazer. Nobody is going to sign a deal with your shoes. And your luggage doesn't have a ROI.
If you show up with a suitcase full of clothes but a head full of "we'll see what happens," you’ve already lost the investment. You’re not an attendee; you’re a tourist. And business owners don't have the luxury of being tourists.
The Costume vs. The Consequence
Most entrepreneurs treat conferences like a high-stakes fashion show. They want to be seen. They want the "I was in the room" selfie. They want the aesthetic of success.
There is nothing wrong with looking the part. I’m a fan of a sharp look. But looking the part without playing the part is just expensive cosplay.
I’ve seen people drop $2,000 on a ticket, another $1,500 on a flight and hotel, and $500 on a new wardrobe, only to sit in the back of the room scrolling through Instagram. They leave with a bag full of swag and a brain full of fog.
Contrast that with the person who shows up with one notebook, two pens, and a singular, burning intention. They might be wearing a brand t-shirt and jeans, but they’re the ones walking out with a joint venture partnership that’s worth six figures.
Packing your clothes is a logistical task. Packing your intention is a leadership requirement.
The Three Results Rule
Before you zip that bag, you need to be able to name three specific results you are hunting for. Not "I want to learn." Not "I want to network." Those are soft words. Soft words lead to soft profits.
You need hard outcomes.
Success at an event like TSP Live looks like this:
- "I am leaving with a finalized strategy for my Q3 lead magnet."
- "I am going to secure three solid referrals for a new operations manager."
- "I am going to find one partner who can help me scale my Facebook ad spend."
When you have three specific results, your brain stops scanning the room for "interesting things" and starts hunting for "necessary things." You don’t just listen to a speaker; you listen for the specific sentence that solves your lead magnet problem. You don’t just talk to the person next to you; you ask the specific question that identifies them as a potential referral source.
If you don't know what you're looking for, you won't recognize it when it’s standing right in front of you at the coffee station.
The Assignment: People, Sessions, Deals
A conference is a battlefield of distractions. There are lights, music, big personalities, and a thousand "bright shiny objects." If you don't have an assignment, you will get swept up in the noise.
Here is how you pack your intention:
1. The "Must-Meet" List
Stop waiting for "serendipity." Go to the event website. Look at the speaker list. Check the hashtags on social media to see who else is going. Identify five people you need to speak to. Not to "pick their brain," but to offer value or initiate a specific conversation. Write their names down. Research what they’re working on. When you see them, you won't be starstruck; you'll be prepared.
2. The Session Filter
You do not need to attend every single session. Read that again. If you try to drink from the firehose, you’ll just end up bloated. Look at the schedule and identify the three sessions that directly align with your "Three Results." Those are your non-negotiables. Sit in the front. Take notes like your mortgage depends on it. For the other sessions? If they don't move the needle, use that time for high-level networking or implementation in the hallway.
3. The Deal Desk
What is the one deal you want to close? Maybe it's a software upgrade. Maybe it's a coaching program. Maybe it's a collaboration with a peer. Decide now what your "Yes" looks like. Decide what your budget is. Decide what your criteria are. When the opportunity presents itself, you won't have to "think about it" or "get back to them." You’ll be able to move with the speed of a leader.
Show Up With Purpose, Not Just Outfits
The luggage you carry into the hotel lobby is temporary. The intention you carry into the room is permanent.
I want you to take ten minutes today: right now: and do an "Intention Audit." Open a blank page in your notebook. Title it TSP LIVE 2026: THE MISSION.
List your three results. List your five people. List your one deal.
Then, and only then, can you go back to picking out which shoes go with that blazer.
The room is ready for you. The question is: are you ready for the room? Or are you just dressed for it?
Move on purpose today. I’ll see you in the room.
