Poll proves NYers aren’t buying Hochul’s blame-Trump excuses

Governor Kathy Hochul’s favorability rating has hit a new low, and it’s not hard to see why. Her recent comments on Bruce Blakeman’s meeting with former President Donald Trump have left many scratching their heads. Hochul criticized Blakeman for “kowtowing” to Trump and accused him of “groveling at Trump’s feet” to get his marching orders. However, when Hochul met with Trump herself, she proudly claimed that her goal was to secure federal funding for the state.

But the real kicker came when it was revealed that Trump had pressured Hochul to approve a natural-gas pipeline during their meeting – a decision she swiftly made. So, is Hochul not guilty of “groveling” as well? It seems like a double standard at play here.

Interestingly, Nassau County, under Blakeman’s leadership, has been thriving, while the state as a whole, under Hochul, is facing numerous challenges. It’s clear that working with the president can be beneficial for New York, as even Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a self-proclaimed socialist, understands.

Despite this, Hochul seems intent on bashing Trump as she seeks re-election, blaming him for the state’s problems. However, New York residents aren’t buying it. A recent Siena poll found that only 41% of them view Hochul favorably, while 46% have an unfavorable opinion of her. Many believe that the state is headed in the wrong direction, especially when it comes to issues like crime, affordable housing, and the cost of living.

New York is known for its high cost of living, with housing, energy, and taxes being major contributors. Hochul claims to be addressing affordability but has already broken her promise not to raise taxes multiple times this year. In addition, her support for the state’s stringent climate law is expected to further increase prices on essential goods and services.

It’s evident that New York is on the wrong track, and blaming Trump for the state’s woes is not the solution. Hochul needs to take responsibility for the challenges facing New Yorkers and work towards real solutions instead of playing the blame game. Voters deserve a leader who is willing to address the issues head-on and make meaningful changes for the betterment of the state.
