Shoplifting duo stole merchandise worth $2,200 from Lululemon, then crashed during getaway, sheriff says

Two individuals from Chicago are facing serious charges after allegedly stealing over $2,200 worth of merchandise from a Lululemon store in the West Loop and then getting into a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the theft took place at the 932 West Randolph Street location around 10:25 a.m. on June 3. A man and a woman entered the store, with the man reportedly taking a tote bag from inside his pants. They proceeded to fill the bag with merchandise and left the store without paying before fleeing in a white Volkswagen Tiguan. Lululemon employees quickly contacted the Sheriff’s Police Organized Retail Crime Unit and provided information about the suspects’ vehicle, including its license plate number.

Law enforcement officers were able to locate the Volkswagen and followed it at a distance as it entered the Dan Ryan Expressway. The driver allegedly began driving recklessly, changing lanes erratically, and ultimately collided with a box truck. Sheriff’s police responded to the crash, offered medical assistance to the suspects (who declined treatment), and subsequently arrested them.

The individuals were identified as 46-year-old Phillip Todd and 30-year-old Jazmine Nooner. The stolen Lululemon merchandise was recovered from inside the crashed vehicle. Todd and Nooner were both charged with felony retail theft and released pending trial.

CWBChicago, a local news outlet focused on public safety reporting, was created in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the accuracy of information provided at Community Policing meetings. The coverage area of CWBChicago has since expanded to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas. Despite the expansion, the mission of CWBChicago remains the same: to deliver original reporting on public safety with more detail and context than mainstream media outlets.
