Stankoven scores again, Hurricanes complete 4-game sweep of Senators
The Carolina Hurricanes secured a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators in Game 4 to sweep the first-round series. Logan Stankoven played a crucial role by scoring the go-ahead goal in the third period, showcasing his scoring prowess once again. Taylor Hall contributed a goal and an assist, while Sebastian Aho sealed the deal with two empty-net goals. Frederik Andersen stood tall in net, making 25 saves to help his team advance to the next round.
On the other side, Drake Batherson and Dylan Cozens managed to find the back of the net for the Senators, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Hurricanes’ dominance throughout the series. Linus Ullmark made 26 saves in a losing effort, while rookie defenseman Carter Yakemchuk made his playoff debut with two assists.
The Senators faced an uphill battle after falling behind 3-0 in the series, joining a small group of teams in NHL history who have come back from such a deficit to win a seven-game series. Despite their efforts, they were unable to mount a comeback and fell short against a determined Hurricanes squad.
Stankoven’s power-play goal in the third period proved to be the difference-maker, as the Senators struggled to generate quality scoring chances on their power play opportunities. Aho’s empty-net goals put the game out of reach for Ottawa, securing the series sweep for Carolina.
The game was not without its share of physicality and intensity, with emotions running high as both teams battled for every inch of the ice. A big hit from Senators defenseman Tyler Kleven on Hurricanes blueliner Alexander Nikishin set the tone for a hard-fought contest.
Overall, the Hurricanes showcased their depth and skill throughout the series, proving to be a formidable force in the playoffs. With the victory, they advance to the next round with confidence and momentum on their side.
