Starz Acquires Russell T Davies’s Drama ‘Tip Toe’ for the U.S., Canada
Russell T Davies’ latest drama “Tip Toe” is set to make its debut on Starz in the United States and Canada. The LGBTQ+ series, starring Alan Cumming and David Morrissey, follows the story of two neighbors who find themselves at odds with each other after years of living side by side in Manchester.
Cumming portrays Leo, the owner of Spit & Polish, a popular bar on Canal Street, while Morrissey takes on the role of Clive, an electrician with two teenage sons. As tensions rise and opinions become radicalized, the once friendly neighbors become bitter enemies in a gripping drama that sheds light on the prejudices creeping back into society.
The show also features a talented ensemble cast including Pooky Quesnel, Jackson Connor, Joseph Evans, Elizabeth Berrington, Iz Hesketh, Shakeel Kimotho, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Paul Rhys, Charlie Condou, and Denise Welch. Shot on location in Manchester and directed by Peter Hoar, “Tip Toe” promises to deliver a compelling and thought-provoking narrative.
Starz Networks president Alison Hoffman praised the series for its exploration of cultural tensions and anxieties, as well as the exceptional performances from Cumming and Morrissey. Davies, the creator of the show, expressed his excitement about partnering with Starz once again, highlighting the audience’s appetite for bold and opinionated content.
With executive producers Nicola Shindler, Russell T Davies, and Alan Cumming on board, and Phil Collinson as producer, “Tip Toe” is a testament to daring and original storytelling. The show, produced by Quay Street Productions for Channel 4 and distributed internationally by ITV Studios, has already made waves in the UK.
The deal with Starz was brokered by Katie Buchanan and Rob Kaplan at ITV Studios, showcasing the growing demand for diverse and compelling storytelling. As “Tip Toe” prepares to captivate audiences in North America, it promises to be a must-watch series that tackles identity, fear, and polarization in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
