Trump, ramping up pressure on Maduro, says it would be ‘smart’ for Venezuelan leader to step down

President Donald Trump is intensifying pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, suggesting that it would be wise for him to step down and cautioning him against acting tough. Speaking to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, Trump was asked about the administration’s goal in Venezuela, to which he responded that it would likely involve forcing Maduro out of power.

Trump also issued a warning to Maduro, stating that if he chooses to play tough, it would be the last time he could do so. He emphasized the presence of a substantial armada in South America, signaling the readiness of the U.S. military in the region.

In recent weeks, the U.S. has bolstered its military presence with 15,000 troops and warships in the Caribbean. Trump has ordered a complete blockade of sanctioned oil tankers to target Venezuela’s main revenue source. Maduro has vowed to continue oil trading despite the blockade, asserting that regime change is not an option.

Furthermore, the U.S. military has conducted numerous strikes on drug-carrying vessels in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, resulting in over 100 casualties. These actions have raised legal concerns, but the administration defends them as part of the war on drug cartels.
