US has ‘every intent of getting’ Iran deal done Sunday: Ambassador Waltz
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Confident in Peace Deal with Iran
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz expressed optimism about the potential signing of a preliminary framework for a peace deal with Iran by President Donald Trump. While cautious not to preempt any official announcement, Waltz stated that Trump is fully committed to the agreement.
During an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” co-anchor Martha Raddatz questioned Waltz about the likelihood of the signing taking place on that day. Waltz responded by acknowledging the challenges posed by Iranian negotiators but affirmed the administration’s confidence in reaching an agreement.
“The president has every intent for it to happen. I’ll leave the actual details and timing to the White House. The Iranians are incredibly difficult negotiators, coupled with the fact that they’re having a very hard time getting guidance from their supreme leader,” Waltz explained.
Despite the complexities involved, Waltz reiterated Trump’s determination to finalize the deal, stating, “They have every intent of getting this done today.”
The proposed agreement aims to address issues related to Iran’s nuclear program and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within a 60-day period. While Trump set Sunday as the target date for signing, Iran has not confirmed the timeline. A spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry suggested that the memorandum of understanding could be finalized in the coming days.
