Sebastian Perez Sentenced to 8 Years for Carjacking

In a shocking turn of events, Sebastian Perez has been sentenced to eight years in prison for his involvement in a carjacking incident in Chicago. The case, which involved the robbery of two brothers of their Infiniti G37, took a surprising twist when Perez’s social media posts became key evidence in the prosecution’s case against him.

On September 21, 2023, Perez appeared before Judge Linzey Jones on charges of aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated fleeing from police in Lyons. Despite being released from custody the following day, Perez found himself in hot water just 53 days later when he and another man allegedly robbed the two brothers at gunpoint.

The victims, aged 19 and 20, not only lost their car but also their wallets, phones, and credit cards during the harrowing incident. Police were able to locate the stolen Infiniti within 24 hours, with Perez allegedly behind the wheel.

While investigators initially struggled to gather enough evidence to link Perez to the armed hijacking, a breakthrough came when a search warrant for his phone revealed incriminating photos and videos. One such video showed Perez inside the stolen car, flashing the license plates and boasting, “We got keys to this b***h!” This digital evidence proved crucial in linking Perez to the robbery and carjacking.

Following a guilty plea to aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon, Perez was sentenced to eight years in prison by Judge Neera Walsh. In a surprising twist, it was revealed that one of the carjacking victims had a social media profile photo featuring him alongside former Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans, a vocal advocate for bail reform in Illinois.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of thorough investigation and the role of digital evidence in modern criminal proceedings. The swift resolution of the case highlights the effectiveness of law enforcement in utilizing all available tools to bring perpetrators to justice.
