Wembanyama’s MRI shows no ligament damage in hyperextended knee; All-Star to miss Spurs-Pacers game
The San Antonio Spurs received good news after an MRI revealed that center Victor Wembanyama did not sustain any ligament damage in his left knee. However, the All-Star center will still be sidelined for Friday’s game against the Indiana Pacers as he continues to recover.
Wembanyama suffered a hyperextended left knee during the Spurs’ recent victory over the New York Knicks. Despite initially feeling fine after the game and expressing his intention to play against the Pacers, the team’s medical staff decided it was best for him to rest and rehabilitate the injury in San Antonio.
The injury occurred when Wembanyama was leaping for an offensive rebound and landed awkwardly, causing his left foot to slide forward. Although there was no contact with a defender, the impact of the landing led to the hyperextension.
During the game, Wembanyama received assistance from his teammates and was able to return to the bench without a limp. His absence will be felt by the Southwest Division-leading Spurs, as he has been a key contributor, averaging 24.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.
Despite the setback, Wembanyama remains optimistic about his recovery, stating, “It’s a good thing it was just a hyperextension. It should be minimal, whatever this thing is.” Fans can only hope for a speedy recovery for the talented center as the Spurs look to maintain their position at the top of the division.
