Iranian and Romanian charged after trying to enter UK’s nuclear submarine base
An incident occurred at HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland involving an Iranian man and a Romanian woman attempting to gain access to the base that houses Britain’s nuclear-armed submarines, according to police reports on Saturday.
Police Scotland has charged the 34-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, with a scheduled court appearance at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday.
In line with Scottish legal procedures, the identities of the suspects and the specific charges against them have not been disclosed by authorities prior to the court hearing.
The pair was apprehended on Thursday after trying to enter the highly secure HM Naval Base Clyde, located approximately 40 miles northwest of Glasgow.
The naval base, also known as Faslane, serves as the operational hub for the U.K.’s submarine fleet, including those carrying nuclear weapons.
Britain has maintained nuclear capabilities since the 1950s, with its current nuclear deterrent comprising four Royal Navy submarines armed with Trident missiles.
