Max Fried’s gem, second-inning outburst lead Yankees to Opening Day win

The New York Yankees kicked off their season in style with a dominant 7-0 win over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. Despite not hitting a single home run and star player Aaron Judge going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts, the Yankees showcased their offensive depth and stellar pitching to secure their fifth consecutive Opening Day victory.

In the second inning, the Yankees exploded for five runs in just 10 pitches, turning a scoreless game into a commanding lead. This quick offensive outburst, combined with a strong performance from starting pitcher Max Fried, set the tone for the rest of the game.

Fried, who initially struggled in the first inning, settled in and delivered 6 1/3 shutout innings, retiring 18 of the final 20 batters he faced. As the Yankees await the return of ace pitcher Gerrit Cole, Fried’s performance highlighted his ability to step up as a reliable starter for the team.

Despite Judge’s rough night at the plate, the rest of the Yankees’ lineup stepped up to the challenge. The team’s potent offense, which led the league in runs scored last season, continued to deliver with a 10-hit attack that overwhelmed Giants ace Logan Webb.

The Yankees’ decision to retain their core roster from last season paid off on Opening Day, as they showcased their ability to generate runs and receive strong starting pitching. While it’s still early in the season, this impressive performance serves as a promising start for the Yankees as they aim to make a deep postseason run.

With 161 games left in the regular season, the Yankees will look to build on this momentum and prove that their roster decisions were the right ones. But for now, they can celebrate a convincing victory that sets a positive tone for the rest of the season.
