Man charged with stabbing victim outside Loop Walgreens

A Schaumburg man, Alejandro Tellez, has been accused of stabbing and seriously injuring another man outside a Walgreens store located at 151 North State Street in the Loop this week. The victim, a 25-year-old man, was involved in an argument with a group of men outside the store around 9:16 p.m. on Thursday when he was stabbed in the back and the assailant fled the scene, according to police reports.

Shortly after the incident, a Chicago police bike patrol unit apprehended Tellez in the 100 block of North LaSalle Street as he matched the description of the suspect. Witnesses at the scene positively identified Tellez as the attacker, leading to his arrest. As of Saturday, the victim remains in serious condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

During a court hearing on Saturday afternoon, Judge James Murphy III ordered Tellez to be detained as a public safety threat. Tellez is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in connection with the stabbing incident.
