A Texas man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the brutal killing of a mechanic over a $500 repair bill. Raudel Orozco, 25, was convicted of felony murder in the 2022 shooting of Luis Manuel Casillas outside his auto shop in north Houston. Orozco’s chilling warning to Casillas’ family that he would “be out someday” only added to the horror of the crime.
The incident occurred when Orozco, along with his brother Rolando and four other men, arrived at Casillas’ shop to pick up Orozco’s truck, which had undergone repairs. An argument ensued over the unpaid repair bill, with Orozco refusing to pay the $500 owed. As tensions escalated, Casillas reportedly told the group to take the truck and leave.
Witnesses recounted how Casillas attempted to flee as the men pursued him through nearby businesses. Eventually, the group caught up to him, forced him to his knees, and shot him point-blank in the head. Casillas pleaded for his life, telling his attackers that he had a family and to take whatever they wanted. Despite his desperate pleas, the men callously ignored his cries.
Casillas succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, leaving behind a wife and two young daughters. The $500 he was owed was intended for buying Christmas gifts for his children, making his tragic death even more heartbreaking for his family.
In court, Orozco’s attorney claimed that the shooting was accidental and that Orozco believed his truck had been stolen. However, the prosecution argued that Orozco showed no remorse for his actions. Orozco’s brother, Rolando, is also facing murder charges and is set to appear in court for a pre-trial conference.
