‘NCIS’ Brings Back Michael Weatherly as Tony Dinozzo for Season 24
Michael Weatherly is making a highly-anticipated return to the beloved role of Tony DiNozzo in the upcoming 24th season of the hit CBS series, “NCIS.” This news comes shortly after it was announced that another “NCIS” alum, Mark Harmon, will be reprising his role as Gibbs in the prequel series, “NCIS: Origins.”
Weatherly first portrayed DiNozzo in a two-part backdoor pilot on “JAG” back in 2003, which led to the launch of “NCIS” on CBS. He went on to captivate audiences for 13 seasons and over 300 episodes, solidifying his place as a fan favorite in the franchise. Weatherly even made a cameo in Season 21 of “NCIS” before headlining the Paramount+ spinoff, “NCIS: Tony & Ziva,” alongside Cote de Pablo.
Despite leaving “NCIS,” Weatherly remained within the CBS family by starring in the legal drama series “Bull” for six seasons. However, his time on the show was not without controversy, as actress Eliza Dushku accused Weatherly of sexual harassment during her time on set.
The current cast of “NCIS” includes Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, and Gary Cole. The show is produced by CBS Studios, with executive producers including Steven D. Binder, Chas. Floyd Johnson, Mark Harmon, and others.
“NCIS” continues to be a cornerstone of the CBS lineup, with the 24th season set to premiere this fall alongside “NCIS: Origins.” The network also airs other spinoffs such as “NCIS: Sydney” and is in the process of developing “NCIS: New York” starring LL Cool J and Scott Caan.
Past entries in the “NCIS” franchise include “NCIS: New Orleans,” “NCIS: Los Angeles” (which also starred LL Cool J), “NCIS: Hawaiʻi,” and “NCIS: Tony & Ziva.” The series has remained a fan favorite for years, captivating viewers with its thrilling storylines and beloved characters.
