Nearing Khoula, a 24-year-old visitor from France, expressed her initial confusion and fear when she witnessed the flames on the bridge. “At first I thought it was supposed to happen but then I was scared it would explode. I thought the bridge was made of wood so I was scared,” she said. Multiple sections of the bridge appeared to be on fire as the fireworks continued to light up the night sky.

Mohamed Shaban, a 31-year-old from Egypt, described how the fire started small but quickly grew in intensity. “It started as a small fire and got bigger. There was too much black smoke,” he recalled. Fortunately, the fires eventually burned out after a minute, as observed by a reporter from The New York Post.

Despite the alarming incident, a source familiar with the fire response assured that the blazes were contained to the platforms used to launch the fireworks and did not affect the bridge’s structural integrity. The 143-year-old Brooklyn Bridge was deemed “safe and structurally sound” following the fiery display.

The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) promptly extinguished the flames with the help of two fire engines. The quick response helped prevent any serious damage to the historic landmark. Although the unexpected fire on the Brooklyn Bridge caused a moment of panic, the situation was swiftly resolved, ensuring the safety of all those in attendance.
