Bank Manager Allegedly Initiates 100+ Unauthorized Withdrawals From Customer Accounts, Steals Over $21,000
A recent scandal has rocked a US bank, with a manager accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from unsuspecting customers. Reagan France, who worked at Home Savings Bank in Ludlow, Kentucky, allegedly carried out over 100 unauthorized transactions to siphon funds for her own gain.
According to a new grand jury indictment, France utilized various methods to pilfer money from bank customers. One tactic involved halting payment on escrow refund checks linked to fully paid mortgages and then issuing new checks for lesser amounts, pocketing the excess funds. Additionally, she is alleged to have forged withdrawal slips to withdraw money and deposit it into either her own account or those of her family members.
The illicit activities are said to have taken place between July 2022 and May 2024. France started her career at the bank as a teller in 2015 and worked her way up to a managerial position in 2023 before resigning in 2024.
The grand jury has brought forth 22 counts of financial crimes against France, including fraud and embezzlement, relating to nine specific transactions valued at $2,500 each. The charges carry hefty penalties, with 18 counts punishable by up to 30 years in prison and the remaining two counts carrying a maximum sentence of two years.
While the exact amount stolen has not been disclosed in the indictment, Home Savings Bank, which has been serving customers in Kentucky since 1880, manages assets totaling $27.6 million.
This shocking case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and oversight in financial institutions to prevent such breaches of trust.
