‘Cold front coming on through’

As we head into the new week, Mother Nature is not letting up on New York, with the threat of snow showers upstate and chilly rain in the city on the horizon.

According to Accuweather Senior Meteorologist Carl Erickson, a cold front is expected to move through the area late Friday into Friday night, bringing with it the possibility of showers in New York City. As the front passes, temperatures are expected to drop from the low 50s to the mid-40s, accompanied by breezy conditions on Saturday.

Meanwhile, parts of the Adirondacks in upstate New York are already experiencing snow showers, with the potential for additional light snow as the cold front settles in. While the highest terrain may see some accumulation, Erickson does not anticipate a significant snow event across the Northeast at this time.

This winter has been particularly harsh for the tristate area, with back-to-back snowstorms causing chaos and disruption. Winter Storm Fern blanketed parts of New York City in 1 to 2 feet of snow, resulting in at least 28 storm-related fatalities nationwide. Just a few weeks later, Winter Storm Hernando added another 15 to 20 inches of snow on top of existing accumulations.

While the upcoming weather system may not bring the same level of snowfall as previous storms, residents are advised to stay prepared for changing conditions and potential travel disruptions. As we navigate through the last stretch of winter, it’s essential to stay informed and take precautions to stay safe in the face of unpredictable weather patterns.
