Drilling under way at Critical Metals’ Tanbreez project

Critical Metals (CRML) has recently commenced a 10,000m diamond drilling programme at its Tanbreez Rare Earth Project in southern Greenland. The primary objective of this drilling initiative is to support resource growth, geological modelling, mine planning, and future development at the project site.

In preparation for the drilling campaign, essential accommodation and operational support infrastructure have been completed at the Tanbreez Rare Earth Project. This infrastructure is crucial for facilitating the current drilling activities as well as ongoing project development efforts.

Contractors and support staff have arrived at the site, and drill rigs have been positioned in target areas following equipment inspections and readiness assessments. Over the next two to three weeks, field teams will verify ground conditions and mark out blast sites for planned access and development works. This phase aims to confirm final drill collar locations, improve site access routes, and ensure the safe execution of drilling operations.

In addition to the drilling activities, ongoing tasks include geological mapping, surface verification, finalization of drill pads and access routes, collar surveys, and environmental, health, and safety monitoring. The initial drilling will focus on key mineralized zones identified in previous exploration and technical evaluations.

CRML describes the Tanbreez Rare Earth Project as one of the largest undeveloped rare earth projects globally, with significant concentrations of heavy rare earth elements. These elements are essential components in permanent magnets, electric vehicles, defense systems, and advanced manufacturing processes.

The data generated from the current drilling campaign is expected to support future resource updates, feasibility studies, and other development initiatives. The programme will also enhance the company’s geological understanding of the project area.

CRML Chairman Tony Sage expressed optimism about the drilling campaign, stating, “The start of our 10,000m drilling campaign marks another important step in the advancement of the world-class Tanbreez rare earth project. Following a successful mobilization effort, drilling is now underway across priority target areas. The information generated from this programme is expected to support resource expansion, geological modelling, mine planning, and other activities aimed at advancing Tanbreez toward production.”

In a significant development earlier this year, CRML signed a letter of intent to acquire all outstanding shares of European Lithium in a transaction valued at approximately $835m (A$1.19bn). This strategic move further underscores CRML’s commitment to expanding its presence in the rare earth sector and strengthening its position in the market.

Overall, the ongoing drilling programme at the Tanbreez Rare Earth Project represents a critical milestone in CRML’s journey towards realizing the full potential of this valuable resource. The data and insights gathered from this initiative will play a pivotal role in shaping the future trajectory of the project and positioning CRML as a key player in the rare earth industry.
