Ex-Prince Andrew probed over potential sex crimes as police seek witnesses

Former Prince Andrew is currently under investigation for potential sex crimes as British police have made an appeal for witnesses. The investigation stems from a woman who alleged that she was taken to the royal residence, Royal Lodge in Windsor, for “sexual purposes” when she was in her 20s back in 2010. Thames Valley police have reached out to her lawyer, but have not yet launched a criminal investigation, according to Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright.

“We have engaged with the woman’s legal representative to confirm that, should she wish to report this to police, it will be taken seriously and handled with care, sensitivity and respect for her privacy and her right for anonymity,” Wright stated. Officers are prepared to listen and investigate whenever the woman feels ready to come forward and speak with them.

This marks the first time an accuser of Jeffrey Epstein has claimed to have had a sexual encounter with Prince Andrew at a royal residence. Police are also appealing for other potential Epstein survivors to come forward. The investigation into Andrew’s tenure as UK trade envoy, spanning from 2001 to 2011, has been widened to include allegations of fraud, corruption, bullying, and perverting justice.

In February, Andrew was arrested on suspicions of misconduct in public office, an offense that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment in the UK. Contrary to popular belief, the investigation is not solely focused on finance-based crimes. It encompasses a range of offenses, such as sex offenses, fraud, corruption, and perverting the course of justice.

Searches were conducted at Andrew’s home on the Sandringham Estate and the Royal Lodge in Berkshire following his arrest. The investigation is expected to be thorough and time-consuming, covering multiple aspects of alleged misconduct. Witnesses are being interviewed, but no charges have been filed against Andrew at this time.

Recent revelations have shed light on Queen Elizabeth’s strong support for Andrew’s appointment as trade envoy. Documents have surfaced indicating the Queen’s desire for Andrew to play a prominent role in promoting national interests. Despite concerns about his ties to questionable figures in Libya and Azerbaijan, Andrew was forced to relinquish his role as trade envoy. He was also stripped of his royal titles by King Charles last October, although he remains 8th in line to the British throne.

The investigation into Prince Andrew’s alleged misconduct continues, with authorities urging any potential witnesses or survivors to come forward. The case is expected to be thorough and meticulous, exploring various aspects of alleged wrongdoing. The royal family’s involvement in trade and investment promotion work remains under scrutiny, as the investigation delves into Andrew’s tenure as UK trade envoy.
