Golfer has his dad caddie to finish his US Open debut in a Father’s Day surprise
Son Surprises Father with Unique Father’s Day Gift at U.S. Open Debut
On Father’s Day, Miles Russell gave his dad, Joe, a memorable gift by inviting him to be his caddie during his U.S. Open debut at Shinnecock Hills.
The 17-year-old amateur golfer surprised his father on the 18th hole when his caddie handed Joe Russell’s clubs to him outside the ropes to carry them the rest of the way.
“It was kind of a fun Father’s Day gift,” Miles Russell said. “Kind of cool since it was my first one. Hopefully it’s something he’ll remember for a long time.”
Prior to this, Russell had Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie Woods, as his caddie during a 36-hole qualifying tournament. However, for the U.S. Open, Ramon Bescansa was on the bag for Russell until the 18th hole.
As Russell approached the 18th green, Bescansa handed the bag to Joe Russell, who put on the caddie bib. According to the NBC broadcast, Miles had sought permission from a USGA rules official in the morning for this surprise, and Joe was unaware of the plan.
Russell finished the tournament at 7 over after shooting an even-par 70 in the final round. He was paired with fellow amateur Jackson Koivun for the last two rounds.
This heartwarming Father’s Day gesture added a special touch to Russell’s U.S. Open experience and created a lasting memory for both father and son.
