Illegal migrant charged with murdering Loyola student Sheridan Gorman
An illegal Venezuelan migrant who entered the US under the Biden administration has been charged with the murder of Sheridan Gorman, a Loyola University Chicago freshman from New York. The tragic incident occurred during a walk at Chicago’s lakefront on Thursday morning.
Jose Medina, 25, allegedly shot 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman while she was strolling along the pier at Tobey Prinz Beach. He has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault/discharge of a firearm, and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon by the Chicago Police Department.
Medina was detained at the border in May 2023 but was released into the US, as reported by a DHS release obtained by Fox News. He was also arrested and released for shoplifting from Macy’s in Chicago the same year. DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis criticized Chicago’s sanctuary city laws, which allowed for Medina’s release, stating that Gorman was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians.
The motive behind the shooting is still unclear, as Gorman’s friends mentioned to the Chicago Sun-Times that it did not seem intentionally targeted towards them. Gorman’s family described her as a proud Yorktown girl who had a radiant spirit, was deeply loving, and had a heart that made space for everyone. A private service for Gorman is scheduled to be held on Saturday in Yorktown, with a community vigil being planned for all those who knew her.
The tragic loss of Sheridan Gorman has left a deep impact on her family, friends, and community. The senseless act of violence highlights the importance of addressing issues related to illegal immigration and ensuring the safety of all individuals within the country. The memory of Sheridan Gorman will live on through the love and warmth she shared with those around her.
