Iranian man, Romanian woman charged after alleged attempted break in at UK nuclear missile base: officials

An Iranian man and a Romanian woman have been charged after allegedly trying to enter a nuclear missile base in Scotland. Police Scotland announced the incident on Saturday, stating that the two individuals were attempting to enter HM Naval Base Clyde. The 34-year-old Iranian man and 31-year-old Romanian woman have been arrested and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

According to reports, the suspects were turned away from the base due to lacking the correct passes and were later arrested for acting suspiciously nearby. HM Naval Base Clyde, also known as Faslane, is the primary base for the UK’s missile fleet. It houses the core of the Submarine Service, including the nation’s nuclear deterrent and hunter-killer submarines.

The Royal Navy operates a fleet of submarines, with all nine submarines based at HM Naval Base Clyde. The fleet consists of both conventionally-armed nuclear-powered attack submarines and ballistic missiles submarines of the Vanguard class, which form the UK’s submarine-based nuclear deterrent.

In response to the incident, a Royal Navy spokesperson confirmed the arrests but refrained from providing further details due to the ongoing investigation. Police Scotland is currently conducting inquiries into the matter.

The attempted breach at the nuclear missile base has raised concerns about security measures and the protection of sensitive military installations. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining strict security protocols at such high-security facilities to prevent unauthorized access and potential threats to national security.
