Man indicted in West Loop, Old Town mail theft burglaries that cost victims up to $100K
Man Indicted for Burglarizing Chicago Apartment Buildings, Stealing Identities
Daniel Krichilsky, 45, has been indicted by a Cook County grand jury on charges related to a burglary scheme targeting apartment buildings in Chicago’s West Loop and Old Town. The indictment includes 13 victims, three of whom are older than 60, with losses ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.
The charges against Krichilsky include two counts of burglary, three counts of aggravated identity theft involving victims over 60, and one count of identity theft. Prosecutors allege that the crimes took place between April 23, 2023, and January 26, 2024.
Prosecutors claim that Krichilsky targeted specific apartment buildings, including one in the 700 block of West Randolph Street in the West Loop and another in the 1500 block of North Orleans Street in Old Town. The burglaries reportedly involved mail theft, according to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
Interestingly, Krichilsky’s alleged crime spree began while he was on bail for another burglary case stemming from a July 2022 arrest in Lincoln Park. During that incident, Krichilsky was found inside an apartment building damaging property and was subsequently arrested with various incriminating items in his possession.
Despite the previous arrest, Krichilsky was allowed to plead down the Lincoln Park case to a misdemeanor trespassing charge in May 2023. However, a probation violation warrant has been issued for his arrest since October 2024.
Court records reveal Krichilsky’s criminal history, including convictions for drug offenses, theft, and previous burglaries. Despite previous convictions, Krichilsky is currently free and awaiting trial for the recent indictment.
