Washington man allegedly pistol-whips and shoots teen over water balloon prank
A man from Washington with a troubling criminal past found himself back in trouble after an altercation involving a group of teenagers and a water balloon prank turned violent. Majeed Guerry, a 31-year-old with four prior felony convictions, allegedly shot a teenager in the chest over the incident in Tacoma.
The confrontation began when a group of teens threw water balloons from their vehicle, accidentally hitting Guerry’s car and getting him wet. Enraged by the prank, Guerry chased the teens down a dead-end street near a dump site. Once he cornered the group, he allegedly resorted to violence, pistol-whipping the teen responsible for the water balloon and then shooting him in the chest.
After the shooting, Guerry reportedly robbed the group of $100 in cash before fleeing the scene. The authorities were called, and the injured teenager was taken to the hospital, where he is expected to recover.
Guerry was apprehended on March 20 after surveillance cameras tracked his movements leading up to and after the incident. In court, he pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, assault, unlawful imprisonment, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Due to his criminal history and previous convictions, Guerry is legally prohibited from owning a gun.
During the court proceedings, Guerry defiantly addressed his supporters, inviting them to come get him as he was led out of the courtroom. His bail was set at $150,000, and he remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
