‘One Battle After Another’ Tops Society of Camera Operators Awards
The Society of Camera Operators (SOC) recently held their annual awards ceremony, where Colin Anderson, SOC, took home the top honor for his work on “One Battle After Another.” The television award went to Mark Goellnicht, SOC, ACO, for his work on the episode “The Oner” from the show “The Studio.”
The awards ceremony took place on Saturday night with watch parties held in Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta. The SOC awards are known for recognizing outstanding achievements in film and television production.
In a statement, SOC President Mathew Moriarty highlighted the importance of camera operators in bringing the vision of filmmakers to audiences. He praised this year’s recipients and nominees for their bold and inventive work, despite the challenges faced by the industry in recent years.
Anderson was nominated alongside other talented camera operators, including Brian Osmond, Lukasz Bielan, Gilles Corbeil, and Michael Fuchs. On the TV side, Goellnicht competed against Erdem Ertal, Scott Maguire, Jim McConkey, and Nick Müller for the top honor.
In addition to individual awards, the SOC also presented the President’s Award to Nick Phillips, the inventor and founder of the Libra Head stabilization technology. Phillips, who joined the ceremony via live stream from Cape Town, South Africa, was honored for his groundbreaking contribution to modern image-making.
The SOC also recognized Sony’s Rialto Mini (Venice Extension System Mini) with the Technical Achievement Award for its innovation in advancing the art and craft of camera operation.
Overall, the SOC awards ceremony celebrated the talents and achievements of camera operators in the industry, highlighting their crucial role in bringing stories to life on screen.
