Hollywood celebrities at center of LA voter registration controversy

A voter registration controversy has rocked Hollywood, with high-profile celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, Jenna Dewan, and Nicollette Sheridan allegedly registered to vote using the address of a financial management office in West Hollywood, rather than their actual residences.

According to reports, 36 voters were linked to Suite 600 of a building on Sunset Boulevard, which houses the office of financial adviser Michael Ullman and his firm, Platinum Financial Management. The registrations listed the office address as a residence instead of a mailing address.

Celebrities like Aniston, Dewan, Katheryn Winnick, Sheridan, Laura Harrier, Matt Czuchry, Debbie Gibson, and Hamish Linklater were among those identified in the controversy. Ullman stated that while his celebrity clients used the office for mail purposes, they did not actually live there and voted in their respective areas.

However, Los Angeles County election officials disputed this, claiming that the registrations were recorded as residential addresses rather than mailing addresses. Under California law, voters are required to register at their place of residence, using business addresses or P.O. boxes only for mailing purposes.

The report suggests that celebrities listing their managers’ business addresses as their primary residences on voter registration forms could constitute perjury and enable them to vote in jurisdictions where they do not actually reside. Election experts and attorneys emphasized the importance of truthfully identifying one’s domicile on voter registration forms, as they are signed under penalty of perjury.

Officials from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder are reviewing the matter, with spokesperson Michael Sanchez stating that voters must register at the address they identify as their domicile or residence. The building in question also contains residential units, which may complicate the registration review process.

While there is no evidence that those named in the report actually voted through the West Hollywood office, the incident highlights the importance of following voter registration laws and ensuring the accuracy of residential information.
