LAPD Releases Bodycam Video Of Officer Fatally Shooting Dog
The Los Angeles Police Department recently released disturbing body camera footage depicting the moment an officer fatally shot a pet dog inside an apartment complex. The incident, which took place on June 13, unfolded after police received a call from a neighbor reporting screams and requested a wellness check. The woman involved, Marie Marseille, later explained that she had been celebrating the New York Knicks’ NBA victory by screaming.
The newly revealed video includes footage from the body cameras of two officers. In the video, Marseille opens her door for the officers while her 2-year-old Bernedoodle named Jameson can be heard barking. The officers ask her to restrain the dog, expressing concern about its size. Despite Marseille’s assurance that the dog is not aggressive, Jameson, wearing a Knicks shirt, charges towards one of the officers barking. Tragically, the officer fires multiple shots, resulting in Jameson’s death as Marseille cries out in anguish.
The LAPD footage is graphic and distressing, providing a harrowing account of the events. Brett Greenfield, an attorney representing Marseille and her family, condemned the officers’ actions, emphasizing that Jameson posed no threat and was a beloved family pet. Marseille, who was in close proximity to the shooting, narrowly escaped harm.
LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell described the incident as “incredibly tragic” and pledged a thorough investigation. The shooting of Jameson sparked widespread outrage online, prompting responses from public figures like Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. A GoFundMe campaign initiated by Marseille’s son, Jeremiah Garcia, has raised over $200,000 to seek justice for Jameson and honor his memory.
The heartbreaking story of Jameson serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of police actions and the importance of accountability in law enforcement.
